Prohibited Goods: Your Safety, Our Priority

At NAFF Courier Services, we are committed to providing secure and compliant logistics solutions for every client.

To maintain the highest standards of safety, legality, and operational integrity, certain items cannot be accepted for transport under any circumstances. Others may require special handling or prior written approval before shipment.

This policy ensures the protection of our riders, customers, and the general public – while maintaining compliance with the Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK), Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA), and international courier regulations.

1. Dangerous or Hazardous Materials

Items that pose risk to human health, safety, or property:

  • Explosives (fireworks, detonators, grenades, ammunition, gunpowder)
  • Flammable liquids or gases (petrol, diesel, kerosene, butane, propane, lighter fluid, paint thinners)
  • Radioactive materials or isotopes
  • Toxic or corrosive substances (acids, bleach, mercury, chlorine, battery acid)
  • Dry ice or pressurized containers (oxygen tanks, CO₂ cartridges, spray cans)
  • Infectious or biological substances not packaged or certified for transport

2. Illegal or Controlled Substances

Items prohibited under Kenyan law and international narcotics conventions:

  • Narcotic drugs (heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana etc.)
  • Unregistered or counterfeit pharmaceutical products
  • Tobacco or vaping products not compliant with KEBS or KRA standards

3. Weapons and Security-Related Equipment

  • Firearms, air guns, tasers, and replicas
  • Ammunition, magazines, or explosive devices
  • Military or police equipment (batons, handcuffs, pepper spray, body armor, night vision devices)
  • Any combat or tactical gear requiring a special license

4. Perishable or Decomposable Goods

Unless under approved temperature-controlled service:

  • Unpackaged fresh food, meat, fish, or dairy
  • Plants, flowers, and organic produce susceptible to decay

5. Cash and Valuables

Items that carry high monetary or sentimental value, which are not insurable under standard courier policy:

  • Cash (local or foreign currency), coins, or bullion
  • Precious metals and stones (gold, silver, diamonds, jewelry)
  • Negotiable instruments (cheques, bearer bonds, stocks, certificates)
  • Collectibles, antiques, or artworks of high value

6. Prohibited Documents and Data

  • Credit/debit cards, blank cheque books, or banking PINs
  • Classified or confidential government materials
  • Digital storage devices containing sensitive or illegal data (USB drives, hard drives, etc.)

7. Counterfeit or Unlawful Goods

  • Counterfeit goods, pirated software, or fake branded merchandise
  • Items that infringe trademarks, copyrights, or patents
  • Smuggled, untaxed, or restricted imports

8. Live or Dead Animals

  • Live animals, birds, reptiles, or insects
  • Animal carcasses or remains
  • Animal by-products (hides, bones, ivory, horns, etc.)

9. Human Remains or Body Parts

  • Full or partial human remains, organs, tissues, or blood samples (unless licensed medical courier with permits)

10. Other Restricted Items

  • Lottery tickets or gambling materials prohibited by law
  • Pornographic or obscene materials
  • Items promoting hate, discrimination, or unlawful activities
  • Items prohibited by any civil aviation, customs, or security authority
  • Any parcel whose contents are declared “non-transportable” under Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) or Communications Authority (CA) regulations and other relevant laws

11. Items Requiring Prior Approval

Some goods may be transported only under strict compliance and prior agreement, including:

  • Medical samples and laboratory specimens (temperature-controlled)
  • Electronics containing lithium batteries
  • Industrial equipment with oils or magnetic components
  • Fragile, bulky, or high-declared-value items

Your Responsibility as a Sender

  • Accurately declare the contents of their parcels.
  • Comply with packaging and documentation requirements.
  • Seek clarification if unsure whether an item is restricted or prohibited.

Failure to disclose prohibited contents may result in confiscation, legal action, or denial of service as per company policy and national law.
